Updated 10/20/2005

Criteria and Standards for OSB Membership

  1. Playing Ability. All members will be capable of playing advanced HS/college literature (grade 5+)
  2. Reliability: Members will come to rehearsals on time, prepared, and give adequate notice to their section leader when they are unavailable to play.
  3. Congeniality. being personable and considerate of others, is essential for the group to function cohesively
  4. Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances in each series.

Substitute Policy

  1. One planned (scheduled) absence per series (either a rehearsal or performance) is allowed and should be discussed with the Section Leader or Manager. If more time away is needed the Section Leader or Manager will inform and/or consult with the Personnel Director and Conductor to determine if the member should be allowed to perform the series or if a substitute should perform.
  2. If there are any planned absences, member must communicate with their Section Leader or Section Manager and find an appropriate substitute (see Criteria and Standards for Membership).
  3. The Section Leader or Section Manager will help provide contact information but it is ultimately the player’s responsibility to provide a temporary replacement.
  4. Emergency situations (health, family crisis etc.) are an exception to the above. Please inform Section Leader, Section Manager or OSB Board member as soon as possible.

Leave Of Absence

  1. Members must request a “Leave of Absence”, if they plan to be gone from the band for up to one year (three consecutive series). They must submit their intent in writing to the Section Leader, Section Manager or the OSB Board for the stated period of time.
  2. While the member is gone, a substitute will be obtained. If the member does not return after the specified period, his/her seat will be forfeited. The member will have to wait until an opening is available.
