Oregon Symphonic Band

Database Archive Project

Please help, if you can, to complete our archive on performances of the Oregon Symphonic Band and possibly its predecessor, the Portland Wind Ensemble

We currently have a database, available at this website, of past performances of the Oregon Symphonic Band. The database lists title, composer, series, conductor and soloist for all the regular concerts that we know of. It is not, unfortunately, complete.

For OSB we have all titles from the first program in the winter of 1987. There are some missing data, however:

  • We're missing program order for all concerts up to and including Spring 1993, Winter 1994 and Fall 1994, and Spring and Fall of 1997. A hard copy of the programs would be helpful.

  • There's a rogue entry in the Fall 1993 concert of Mendelssohn's Overture for Band, conducted by Bill Tuttle, that wasn't on the printed program. Was this an "extra" on that program, or does it belong in a different series? Please contact me if you can help.

  • There may be other errors of which we are not aware. We invite you to browse the database and poke at it from whatever perspective interests you and see if you can find any errors that can be corrected.

For the Portland Wind Ensemble, we have only the programs for November 4, 1984 , January 21, 1984, March 10, 1985 and May 5, 1985. A note in the programs says the PWE was formed in 1977 by Gordon Solie, so there must be some old programs lying about that would be helpful. However, it may not be of interest to enough people, nor may it be considered appropriate, to include these performances in the PWE in the OSB database. Your thoughts on this issue would be helpful.

You can help this project by contacting me, Dave Ressler, and passing on any information that can improve the accuracy or completeness of the database.
